Paul,

I too have spent many a happy hour straightening and rebuilding my hood
frame to get it to erect and stow properly.

From memory the stick you are refering to is held in position by a screw
each side where it joins the main frame and the webbing straps that are
rivetted by the back window. So either you have it upside down but then
it probably wouldn't stow properly or the webbing is holding it in the
wrong place.

Or maybe I've totally mis-understood the problem !
