Re: Front Brakes Query...

Hello John,
From the responses from those employed in the business of servicing Stags, and
those
whom service their own Stags, it is quite clear that there are may be some
differences in
various pads supplied by various sources. Like I said, I'll bet there is at least
one
manufacturer that makes "handed" pads, and it happens to be AP Lockheed. I just
bought a Lockheed set from an import car parts house, PN GBP246, 4 pads. Each pad
has the same part number on it C 28 01 EA. They are indeed handed with an "L"
stamped in one each, but both are the same number on the backside. These must be
fitted properly or the split pins do not fit.

I'd like to see some Triumph or British Leyland specification that indicates
that the
pads should be handed or not, where the part number changes to various suppliers
occured, and if suppliers are selling bogus parts. Would not be the first time
that incorrect parts were substituted because they were "close" to the originals.

That indeed is the function of the SOC Technical Advisor, to get to the root of
questions and queries with facts, not purveying inuendo and slanderous remarks. The
official Triumph B/L Documentation that I have are two Stag Parts Catalogues, the
initial Draft edition, and revision "D", along with the latest Repair Operations
Manual. None of this documentation indicates handed pads, although it appears they
should be for proper fit. It also appears that some suppliers may be supplying
different parts, as the two other sets I have are not marked Lockheed, being part
number LS 388 FG and not handed, fitting in either side.

I have searched the Triumph Service Information bulletins to see if there is any
indication, there, none yet.

Here is the history trail as close as I can find: PN 517406, (Original PN) Lining
Pad Service Kit (2), Plate L1 microfische, to (Later Update) PN 520243 Service Kit
Pads (2) plate 04-47 Parts Catalogue. From there, various parts suppliers shifted
the parts number to GBP242 2 pads, GBP275 ?, GBP246 4 pads. I'd say that since
the calipers are Lockheed, stay with the proper pads for them.

I'd think that some other folks out there could give a hint as to what is going on
with this?
