It does, indeed, mean two springs instead of one. It was a popular mod a=
few years back. An aftermarket high-lift camshaft generally accelerates
the valves more rapidly and to a higher velocity when opening them. =
Increasing the red line has the same effect. To keep them following the
cam (that is, to keep them from "floating"), additional valve spring
pressure is required. One way to get additional pressure is double
springs. If I recall correctly, the internal spring is wound in the
opposite direction from the external spring. Benifits were claimed for
that, but I'm not sure they really existed. But greater spring force was=
definately required.

Pardon my ignorence but what's the different between our regular valve
springs and 'Double Valve Springs"? Surely it doesn't mean just putting
two
valve springs instead of one...but then maybe...... Does that make
horsepower? =
