Speedo/Tacho

hi all

I've just replaced the speedo cable and it now seems fine, except that the tacho is now reading low   i.e. about 1000 revs at 50 miles per hour! 

What have I done? Have I knocked something when I dropped the fascia panel to connect the speedo cable or has the voltage stabiliser gone haywire, or something more serious?

Any ideas will be gratefully received!
