Re: VEHICLE EXCISE DUTY IN THE UK

In an earlier message John Clayton askes attention for the UK government plans to change the road tax system. Though I heartily
agree with all actions taken to diminish this kind of taxes, I have to make a little correction at the remarks about the Dutch
system quoted below.

Road Tax over here is based on several aspects of the car, and engine size is indeed one of them.
But the Stag road tax has to be paid only for 25 years (after that it's free). It used to be some 1400 guilders a year until last
july when my Stag turned "25". To my latest knowledge of exchange rates that's about 450 pounds, a lot of money but considerably
less than 600..

For those who consider moving over here rightaway: insurance is a lot cheaper over here too. I have an "all risks" coverage for a
10.000 pound worth car (thats what the taxation says at least :-) ) for 750 guilders (some 250 pounds).
So much for a little "add-on" to Johns comments.
