Water Pump Failures
The following is quoted from uk.rec.cars.classic:
>>
Over the past six or seven years there appears to have been problems
with the manufacture of water pumps for the Triumph Stag, TR7 andDolomite
range.
The problem manifests itself by stripping the skew gears on the water
pump and jackshaft. On testing several pumps it was found that the
hardening process for the gear was incorrect. However Unipart, who
manufacture the pumps, have been very unwilling to settle or pay out any
warranty claims, blaming incorrect installation. The only people who
have had successful claims are those having a metologists report on the
water pump gear, thus proving the gear was inadequately hardened.
If you have experienced such a failure with a new water pump, I would
suggest you get in touch with:
Mr. P. Stowe at Auto Report UK.
Telephone number +44 1992 479850
This is a firm of independant assessors who are currently handling
warranty claims for the water pump and would like to hear from other
people who have suffered the same fault, with a view to presenting
several claims at once and then hopefully Unipart will solve theproblem.--
