Re: Desparate and Stagless!
----------
Hi Mark,
Congratulations on your good taste in a choice of car.
Sounds like you have got a bit of a job on, don't be to put off. I also
live on the Gold Coast ( Helensvale) and run my ( Is my wife looking! opps
our ) stag as often as I can. I have seen quite a few cars around one is
even up for sale on a dealers lot at Southport. The way I look at it is
given the Stags reputation and age, the ones still on the road must be
pretty good considering our climate.
I have had a few setbacks myself and I dont know of any Triumph Mechanics
here on the Gold Coast though I am sure there must be a few. Heads of
Southport do lots of work on British Cars, they are charge for that premium
about $49 per hour ($1300 for a clutch on a 1977 manual ouch !!). GTM of
Cleveland is the one that I have used and they have been very good so far.
Greg is a member of the TSOA ( Triumph Sports Owners Association ). One
place for spares is BAC (British Auto Care ) of Salisbury. They have a web
page, and are very friendly. Parts will still cost though advice is still
free.
The buying of parts from the UK is not helped much by the weak Dollar, I
just bought a few bits from Cardinal in Britian and the customs men ( I am
sure they are all very nice, wacked me for a further $150 import duty and
sales tax. They get you one way or another !!
Hope all goes well for you, see you on the road soon.
