Quick Question

Good Morning,
I continued to look for the source of my dashboard light fault last night,
and discovered what looked like the a stage prop from STAR TREK VOYAGER
after it had been under fire from the BORG... The wiring loom behind the
cigarette lighter was melted beyond recognition. I have cut back the loom to
where the wires look good, but have found some alternative wiring added by
one of the previous 8 owners...
I think most of it is now sorted but I have a query over the footwell lamps.
Can you confirm the following...

With the interior light switched off:-
Open driver's door, puddle lamp in door and footwell lamp both light.

With interior light switched on:-
Open driver's door, puddle lamp in door lights but footwell lamp doesn't.

I have a feeling this is wrong and that the puddle lamps should light when
the interior light is switched on, but I have no car to compare it with.
