RE: Alloys

heres my 2 pence worth on the subject.

The 2500S was bought new in dec 1978. It came equipped with alloy
wheels
held on with alloy nuts. 19 years and 310,000 kilometres later the same
alloy wheel are held on with the same alloy nuts, sorry a small
correction,
One was replaced when some wacko in a tyre shop took to them with an air
gun.

After that I will not let anyone near them with a gun, insist that that
they
are tensioned to 55lb, even to the extent that on occasions I have
produced
the tension wrench from the boot to do the job.

I have never had any other doubts. The Stag have the same configuration
and
I have converted daughters 2000 to alloys wheels and nuts.

 keep staggering brian

Hey Guys,

Rimmer recently sold me 16 chromed steel lug nuts for about $50.

Bret Cravens Wrote: (in part)

"my original lug nuts and wheel centers just looked wrong beside the
near-chrome appearance of the rims. I've never been a fan of the
extremely lightweight lug nuts that came with the wheels and always
drive with a continuous paranoid fantasy about one of the wheels coming
off, so I thought it would be a good idea to purchase some steel nuts,
perhaps chromed to match the 'new' wheels. Unfortunately, I could
locate no replacement nuts that matched the originals in appearance or
fit"
