Re: Jackshaft Float

Hi
If it helps, I have heard of them failing at as little as 700 miles (SOC
Magazine c3 months back) and up to 4000, which was the point at which an
Australian pump failed that I heard about. Unfortunately this chap had
another one go at 4000 miles later. I am no expert in this, merely read a
lot, but would say that to get to 6000 miles looks promising. I can't help on
tell tale signs. What I have read suggests there aren't any.
What puzzles me about this whole thing is that I hear nothing about failures
on TR7 or Dolomite with the same pump. Is the water resistance so much
greater on a Stag, or is the BHP of the Stag engine that much greater so that
sudden power surge of the vane against the water can overstrain a gear of
doubtful hardness. Maybe I move in the wrong circles. Does anyone know the
Newsgroup address for TR7 or Dolomite? We can send them the question.
