I can't say for sure how IH would have plumbed their optional "auxiliary"
transmission cooler.  Normally, when a vehicle does *not* have an auxiliary
cooler, the lines are routed to fitting on the driver's side of the
radiator.  Inside the radiator is a coil which either warms or cools the
transmission fluid, depending on the difference between the fluid
temperature and the engine coolant.

It's common practice when installing an aftermarket transmission fluid
cooler to leave the fluid routed through the radiator *first* then through
the aftermarket cooler.  Leaving the fluid to pass through the radiator
first helps warm it on cold mornings.  Having the auxiliary cooler in place
after the fluid passes through the radiator helps lower the fluid
temperature beyond what the coolant can do (which is pretty hot at ~180 to
~250 degrees).  This extends the life of the fluid and transmission.
