Hmmm...my buddy just picked up for an unspecified amount a model 500 IH
with a complete, working Dump body on it (looks like 12 foot or so
contractor's style). It is DEFINITELY in the medium duty description,
since not only does it have the deep T35 5 speed but also a TWO SPEED rear
axle (electrically operated Eaton, I believe). The GVW is 15,000 lbs...
Aside from the interior missing (no rider's seat, no rugs, etc) and the
driver's window regulator system completely hashed, it is in pretty good
shape!!! It also runs (345) and operates....
It has an interesting bolt pattern for the wheels...only 5 lugs! but they
seem to be very large, and from my heavy truck experience, they look to be
"Stud-Pilot" steel disc style. The front axle is a Heavy I-beam, not IFS,
of course.
It appears that the frame rails are IDENTICAL to a nearby sitting Loadstar
of similar vintage, but both models have a dropped front section to
accomodate the cab and engine. Right after the cab, the frame is raised
about 4-6 inches for the rest of the chassis...there is no "hump" over the
rear axle.
Hmm...any guesses to what this unit might be worth out there?
Chances are this guy will pull off the dump body and sell it separately,
unless someone wants to buy the whole thing complete...
Incidentally, it belonged to a landscaping outfit based in St. Catharines,
Ontario Canada...
