A Straight Steer is a product a couple of Scout vendors make and
sell. What it is is a piece of steel stock that bolts between the frame
rails where the steering box is. This strengthend the frame and doesn't
allow the steering box to 'float' on the frame. Works good, will meka a
large improvment on the drivability of your Scout. Where is the pmp
leaking from? Is it just a hose? or is it the pump itself? I would try
replacing the hoses first, just for kicks. The low pressure return hose
is just a regular piece of hose clamped on both ends, if that doesn't
stop the leak get a high pressure hose, that s the one with fittings on
both ends. If the leak is coming out of the pump itself then you can
rebuild it, or get a new one. I don't recall the cost of a new one, but
a rebuild kit was about $30. I recall swearing I would never rebuild
another pump, but; I may give it one more try now. You have a T-19
wide ratio tranny. This means you have a 6.21 or something first gear.
These trannies were introduced because IH was using a single speed
transfer case with no low range and the granny gear was to replace low
range. The single speed case uses a dash mounted pull knob instead of a
floor mounted shift lever. Welcome to the list and the wonderfulworld
of IH ownership. I'm sure you will develop the same love/hate
relationship with your Scout that we all have with our various IH
vehicles.
