We were wondering if a person could use carbide cutters in a die grinder
to speed up the process, rather than just use a variety of grinding
wheels and points?

I still do a significant amount of head work and use nothing but carbide
cutters in my die grinder.   Also note that if working on aluminum, there is
a specific bit for that purpose.

Carbide is the only way to go for the initial cutting.  I do follow with a
sanding drum afterwards to clean it up.
