Dan,

That's a good idea to fix the sagging cable if it could potentially hang on
something.  But if you in fact did *not* partially apply the e-brake (by
taking the slack from the cable), then your improved pedal travel is in no
way connected to what you did to said e-brake cable.

All the e-brake cable does is mechanically pull a metal arm inside the
brake assembly that spreads the brake shoes apart against the drum.  If you
did not pull the cable and apply this arm, then how in the world would your
pedal travel or performance be affected?  You must have done something else
to improve your brakes, because there's no connection with the e-brake
cable... unless you unknowingly have the e-brake partially applied.
