Rik,

If your rocker shaft is bent, I'd bet it could cause some binding, and, 
for sure some misalignment.  This would cause premature wear on a number 
of things.  Not sure if it would cause noise.  I'd get a new one to 
replace the bent one.

I have no idea how this would come to be bent.
