Auto to manual swap



David,
  I have not tried to swap one for the other but I have gutted both types, I take it back I swapped a nisann diesel 4spd out of an '80 and put in a '74 345/auto.  Pull the dash board right out of both rigs.  The pedals are hung from a bracket that bolts to the fire wall, it also is the point of attachment for the steering column.  You need to disconnect the brake master booster and master cylinder as a unit from the fire wall.  I believe they share bolts/studs.  Swap in the whole bracket from the manual and rehook everything else up.  You should be able to just let the steering column hang out of the way, worst case you'll have to get it out of your way.  Shouldn't be more than a weekend job for the interior swap.  One thing too think about if you haven't already is the tranny mount/crossmember has to be moved forward.   Best bet might be to remove it and figure out where it lines up to after the tranny/transfer is mated to the bell housing, then you can't miss.  Also, I believe the front driveshaft for a manual is a bit shorter than that of an auto.

IH all,

Has anyone ever done a swap from auto to manual on a scout? I am trying to
get the clutch and brake pedals out the the donor vehicle and am having a
problem.  How do you get the clutch and brake pedals out??? I have taken off
the nut on the end of the shaft, pulled off the clutch lever, and tapped the
shaft out as far as I can get it, but it isn't far enough. I have tried to
get the bracket loose but haven't figured it out. If anyone has some info on
this, I would greatly appreciate it.
