The major oil leak turned out to be the capillary tube for my mechanical oil gauge.  Broke or burned in half, then the tube tucked its self up against the back of the block.  Dumb little thing to over look on my part and another example of how one can jump to the worst conclusions for no good reason.  I will put on a compression fitting and the Scout should be good to go.
