I'm definitely no expert, but I like these vehicles very much too, and
have priced several over the past two years. For $6000.00 I would
expect it to be in very good condition. I find them in pretty decent
condition for $4-4500.00 on occasion. Of course, this depends on the
exact model you are speaking of-I believe they made them in the long
style-pick-up length, but usually seats in the back-and the shorter,
"General Purpose" or "Jeep" style. I have been told theat they are not
great at highway speeds due to low gearing, and don't know if they had
higher gears made at that time for them, or if they were only considered
to be for off-road and military use. If not, I am not sure what axles
they had so that gears could be switched out.
I believe Jerry Whiteridge used to drive them in the service at one time
or something. Perhaps he can chime in with some advice here. I know
prices, but not much about the running gear! The last I heard, there
was supposedly a very clean one at "Checquered Flag" in the LA
area-Marina Del Rey, I think. Once again, unless it's in really good
shape, you should shop a little more, is my advice, as I know I've seen
at least 5 in the last two years for under $5000.00-two of which I've
seen in person and were quite noce, and the others I've only called on
and the owners claimed they were in incredible shape. Of course, on
the flipside of this is that I saw one of the "Full-size" models that
had been COMPLETELY re-done, and it was priced at $25,000.00 or
something like that-of course, I don't know what it ended up selling
for, or if it did, but it was very cool, with the full top coming off
and full bar!
