Power to Weight, RTI, and Electricity...
John,
I think then, with Power-to-Weight Ratio for mileage, I've got you beat,
with 12 MPG and a 7000 pound Travelall, <G>

Tom,
Only 63"? I made it 74" with that ridiculous fan shroud in the
Travelall! What the hell does RTI do for the real world anyway? I'm almost
sure that your rig could out-wheel mine anyday!
See you tomorrow!

Well, if I had a phone line handy down here, I would give you updates!
Bill Thebert went 90 inches up the 25 degree ramp... I think Eric Stude hit
122 or something... I made it 63". Teeter totter was fun.... and we set
fire to a Jeep last night.. after taking whacks with a sledge hammer, and
Eric drove his Scout II onto the hood... look for pictures in FourWheeler. :-)
But... my coffees getting ready... and it's time for breakfast. :)

Jeesooks People!
Never have I had such a barrage of email that was semi-flaming than I
have over this double voltage-double power-half fortnight etc!
Let me preface this reply with:
For about 12 years now I have been converting 6v Vintage Vespa, Lambretta, and
Motobecane scooters to 12v for ease of replacement electrics and brighter
headlights. I do this by sinking the charging current through the battery
(Charge at full throttle {WFO} is usually 18v+) and then put in a 25A full wave
rectifier. Now you DO have to maintain the battery a bit more often, especially
in Arizona where they evaporate quicker, but not too much more, maybe fluid
every 4 months instead of 6 months. Anyway, I keep the factory fuses (8A most
of the time) and yes, they don't blow with the new bulbs, so the power
consumption must have stayed the same, or not have increased drastically.
HOWEVER, I always tried to redo the system with commonly available bulbs and
accessories instead of putting same Wattage bulbs in. Now that being said we
can get on to my question, which leads to my confusion and my previously
inflammatory statement to the digest.
HOW-D-HELL does one guarantee that the POWER consumption of a completely
converted electrical system remain the same? It would seem that the only thing
that remains constant in the equations (Whatever one you use): eir, rei, ier,
pv2r, pi2r.... is the resistance of the wire, only because everyone admits that
they change the bulbs, that's a given, right?
Please inform me how to keep the power the same so that I may conform
and assimilate my thoughts into the collective.
Thanks to all, and to all a good day.
