There's no drain plug (unless one was added by a previous owner. Undo the
pan bolts gradually starting at one corner so the fluid pours out in a
manageable stream. Be aware that some fluid will still remain in the pan
as you completely remove it... lower it down carefully to the ground so you
don't get soaked!
Add fluid in small amounts and check often. It's easy to overfill if you
start dumping quart after quart in without checking. The only way to drain
fluid back out if you overfill is to once again loosen the pan bolts.

If it hasn't been done in a log time, it can't hurt to completely drain and
refill both differential carriers. Remember to add limited slip lubricant
(either an additive or limited specific gear oil) to the rear carrier if
you have a limited slip differential installed. While down there, grease
your u-joints (don't forget the u-joints on your front axle if they're
equipped with zerks.
Traveling suggestions...
If you want to make it to Washington on a deadline, take the southern
route! Go through southern New Mexico, Arizona and up through western
California. Unpredictable storm fronts from the Pacific and Yukon basin
can cause horrible winter driving conditions if you take a more direct
route.
If you do go direct, BRING TIRE CHAINS! It's no fun being turned around by
the state patrol or getting stuck on the freeway because you don't have the
REQUIRED traction devices. I tried to drive more or less direct from
Washington to Texas in November several years ago while a horrible storm
front passed across the country from the Pacific. What a mistake! After
getting completely stuck in eastern Oregon for two days, I turned back. I
got stuck in our Subaru on 3 foot high snow drifts in the freeway in a
blinding blizzard... even with four-wheel drive and chains on all four
tires. I almost froze to death trying to put the chains on.
