<E30> tail light question

Yep, there are two types of E30 taillights.  The switch occured
somewhere around '89 (I can't remember exactly, so I'm sure the Digest
will correct me if I'm way off).

The post-switch taillights were a bit bigger, and, as you mentioned,
had a horizontal back-up light.
