I believe that there are factory demo cars. I got one in '88, a 535iS.  This car has
been outstading and has outlasted many maintenance items along the way.  I've had no
real failures with the car and with the regular maintenance I've done, the car has
150k and will easily go another 50k. Ust make sure to have it thoughly inspected and
make sure you ge the remaining factory warranyIlike I did), and all should be OK.
YMMV though.
