everyone,
i have a question regarding springs/shocks. i am planning on replacing the
stock suspension with h&r's/bilsteins in the spring and i want to lower the
front of the car by 1.5-2" and the rear by .75-1". from the h&r
applications chart i see that i can lower the whole car by about .75" with
"factory" replacements but to get the front lower than that i will have to
use a different spring. can i mix spring types? ie, "factory" replacements
in the rear and sport springs in the front. i guess i want to know how the
different spring rates will affect handling. i won't be doing any serious
racing in this car but i would like to do driver schools and possibly some
autoxing with it and i certainly don't want to create some crazy handling
traits. the car in question is my '89iX which, of course, has that extra
amount of travel (from other E30's) in the front. i am not particularly
worried about a stiffer ride as this thing feels down right soft compared to
my wife's probe. in fact, i want to stiffen it up as that is what i am used
to. if you have any other ideas as to how i can achieve my goal please let
me know. my other option is to cut the front springs. also, will the
bilsteins lower it at all? thanks in advance for all the info and help.
one more thing, anyone tried using 225/50/15's on stock iX rims? wondeing
about wear, tramlining, etc. thanks again.
regards,
jack money (Lear Corp. doesn't know my first name)
