<Misc> Pad replacements

Ron:

I don't know what "well driven" is but you'd be surprised what stock pads
wil take. Unless you've done track time, you haven't driven that hard (how
'bout 110-30 mph every 40 seconds for 1/2 hour?) don't be surprised to find
at least a few MM on your pads. Unless you've warped your rotors, I'm sure
they're fine too.

Best pads? depends on what you're looking for...No dust? aha, You need to
get metal master pads. A lot of places have them. I'll endorse Turner
Motorsports as a reliable vendor that has given good service and good
pricing. Take your pick from the vendors in the Roundel. these pads produce
a fraction of the dust that stock pads produce.

Generally, though, you'll find that stock pads will offer slightly better
stopping power IMHO. Their only problem, as you pointed out, is dust, which
is something you're going to get out of most pads.

As you migrate towards the track you'll need hi temp pads, which are even
dirtier, but they don't melt at track temperatures, and they haul your car
down in a hurry from 120. Also note that these pads are no good for the
street cause they don't stop as well when cold, they rattle, a lot of them
gouge the rotors when they're cold cause they're too hard, and they "squeal
like a pen full of stuck pigs" at intersections (Was that Buckland's term a
couple years back?).

Yes this means you will learn to change pads very quickly and frequently if
you become a track junkie.
