Regarding Evan A's apparent clutch hydraulic problem.......with the onset
of cooler weather (at least here in the Northeast), marginal hydraulic
components (primarily clutch master cylinders and slave cylinders) will
start to fail. The seals become brittle and fail. I always stock up on
these parts for the winter (Note that there is a current shortage of the
000 mater cylinders which fit most of the E30/E28/E24 cars and you'll be
paying a little higher price than a few months ago, at least through the
aftermarket).
When the weather gets a little colder, exhaust systems will also begin to
fail. And of course, people will be complaining about heat and replacing
thermostats that are stuck open or the wrong temp for the winter.
Mechanics love a cold, nasty winter........great for their business. Can't
wait for the first freezing rain when E30 wiper motors start to sell with
great frequency (I sold 4 in one day a few years back) (Hint.......if
you've been using your wipers in the winter's rain, don't forget to turn
them off! People leave the wipers on, start the car hours later or the
next morning, the wipers try to move but are frozen to the windshield.
Motor burns out within seconds). Batteries.....typically good for 5 years.
If you're running on borrowed time, better start shopping for one now. SD
