Re: flashing high beams & waving

I realize flashing lights was a once-common BMW
greeting in the US. (In Germany, this would get
old *real* fast as one in five cars is a Bimmer).
I was noting it also used to be common to flash
lights to warn of cops, that neither use of
flashing lights is common at all these days, and
advocating that we all should restart the
tradition of flashing lights to warn of cops. I
have had a coupla people not in BMWs flash lights
at me while I was driving my BMW for absolutely no
discernable reason -- no cops, didn't have my
lights on, no naked women in my car :( etc. I
guess they were former BMW owners who were
continuing the tradition or something. I also
recently waved at a BMW motorcyle rider & he
failed to wave back; either he was snobbish or he
was using both hands to deal with the wind gust
from my car passing him at 110+ (he as going 90+).
I still give drivers of any vehicle which cuts me
off the one-finger wave too, and they usually
reciprocate.

I've been on the giving and receiving end of this,
too, and though I don't
generally go fast enough to gain unwanted
attention, the warning always
helps.  I was just pointing out that flashing high
beams is also a typical
BMW-to-BMW salute.
