RE: Pulling an 02 tii engine

It shouldn't be difficult.

What does Haynes say?  Off the top of my head ...

Remove hood for best results (1/2 hr., and mark the nut heads for
alignment!).
Drain cooling system, remove radiator. (1/4 - 1/2 hr.)
Remove nuts on pass. side mt. and drivers' side of LH mt. (15 min)
Disconnect wire to distributor.  Remove distributor for some room. ( <
15 min)
Disconnect hose to heater from cyl. head rear. (aren't you glad you
removed
 the distributor? Disconnect heater hose return line. ( < 15 min.)
Remove transmission. ( 2-3 hours)
Remove nuts at exhaust manifold-to-downpipe flange.
Lift motor out.  Just kidding, not yet.
Disconnect incoming and return fuel lines.
Disconnect ground straps from engine to chassis.
Disconnect wires to alternator (1 big, 3 small).
Disconnect starter wires (1 BIG, one medium).
Remove battery.
If you have AC, unbolt compressor and support weight. (good luck)
If you have PS, STOP, this is not a 2002, much less a tii!
Disconnect throttle rod, tie aside.

Lift points are a loop above the starter at the rear of
the block and a loop on a bracket at the front of the engine, above 
the water pump.  The motor will balance left/right using these loops.

Lift straight up, taking care to avoid the crank pulley on the front
radiator support panel and the distributor housing, heater hose fitting,
then clutch at the rear.  Left/right clearance is usually not a problem.

On a tii, your alternator is best removed to clear the battery tray.  I
wish I knew. (carb'd 02s only in my past)  On a 2002, the air pump, if
present (snicker) is also under the battery tray and requires
maneuvering.
