Patrick,
6 hours to do a suspension swap???!!! What are these guys smokin'?
Lessee...I do believe that me and Pat "Da Geeeeezzze" got this down to 3
hours +/- 20 minutes, not breaking a sweat on an M3. Of course, we are not
professionals <g>.
Worst part of the job is yanking out the rear trunk carpet/speakers and
getting access to the rear shocks....superior BMW design engineered a
simple shock mount to be needlessly complex to get to - (I've always wanted
to know why they didn't move the rear speakers over 3" and leave an access
panel in the carpet).....or maybe it's doing that spring compressor thang
on the front.
If you have a 1/2" Impact Gun, and a set of Spring Compressors (go to
www.harborfreight.com and buy 'em cheap), then you can do this. Get
Beer...Get Doritos....Get a sucker to help. Pretty easy job (leave the rear
wheels 'on' when you go to pull out the rear springs and release the Emerg.
Brake - they pop right out).
Install Dinan Camber Plates (- 5/8) while you're in there. Only takes
another 15 minutes and gets rid of that nasty understeer.
Don't forget to re-align afterwards, and think about sway bars, too...in
for a penny - in fer a pound.
