95 540 clutch problems

Hi,

I have a 540, 95 with 44,000 miles on it.  At 5th and 6th gear at around
2000 to 4000 rpm,
the clutch will slip.  However, at 1 - 4th gear, the clutch is strong and
the car can
still "burn rubber" out of 1st gear.

It seems that 44,000 miles is short to have a clutch replaced?  I have not
been driving
this car hard. Anyone with a similar
experience out there?
