Hi everyone,
I've been having some problems with my ISP and the list, so here's my last
post again - I don't think it made it onto the digest the first time
around....
I just completed the RL/BB (Rob Levinson Big Brakes) upgrade on my E28 533i
this weekend. During that job I needed to bleed the brake system and so I
fabricated a pressure brake bleeding tool.
I used an OE cap for my master cylinder (I had one since sometime ago the
dealer had blown the rubber cover off of mine and I insisted on a new one),
drilled a hole in the top of it to the correct size, then threaded a
truck-style Schraeder valve stem into the top of it. Added a Zefal Solibloc
cheapy cheap hand bike pump that I got at my dad's yard sale and there's the
tool.
Add fluid right up to the TOP of the reservoir on top of the master
cylinder (leaving some room for air), install valve lid. Pump a few strokes
with the pump, open bleeder valve at desired caliper, pump a little more, go
have a look at the fluid coming out of the caliper, repeat, etc. until all
nice new fluid is seen coming out. Move on to next wheel. Don't forget to
bleed the clutch slave cylinder at the end as well.
Works great. Much less $$$ than other pressure tools, easy to make yourself
and much less hassle than using a (possibly unwilling girlfriend - ask me
how I know!) helper for the manual bleeding method.
best regards to all,
Aaron
p.s. - email if you want more details. Also the DIY SI reset schematics
don't seem to have made it up onto Dale's site yet. Email me directly if you
want them.
