Yes, it is necessary to remove those parts. (Been there, done that.) Just
follow the directions and you'll be ok. Have a supply of new fasteners on
hand since they are one-way locking. And since you will down there,
consider replacing the guibo joint, and bleeding the clutch. Might save
yourself some grief later on. Count on an 8+ beer job if doing all the
above.
