re: buzzing shift knob sound

I had a similar problem after having a short-shift kit
installed (which requires removal/reinstallation of the
shift-knob). Buzzing at high RPM and CW/CCW looseness.

One of the 'clips' inside the shift-knob has probably
broken. You can either (i) replace the shift-knob
which will run ~$40-80 or (ii) put some electrical tape
around the shaft to widen the diameter to make the knob
grip better.

I did the latter but had to experiment around a little.
Too much tape and it gets pushed down and out by the
shift-knob. What worked was to trim the end of the tape 
a narrow 1/8-1/4 inch wide tab at one end and stretch it
through the notch at the top of the shaft, and then wind
about 1-2 inches of tape spirally down the shaft. The 
tab through the notch helps keep the tape from being
dislodged when presing down the shift-knob. Too much tape
in the notch will prevent proper attachment of the knob.
