Bill,

Your valve seals are probably worn.  How many miles?  The reason you see it
in the morning is because there's enough time for the oil to collect in the
cylinder.  You're actually losing a little bit all the time, but the amount
that drips in while the car is running probably isn't enough to make a
cloud.  Just keep an eye on it and when it's time to pull the head to
replace the head gasket, you can have the valves done.
