(That's *San Francisco* Bay Area)
I just bought a '78 320i - it's fairly clean except for
the tranny, which is driveable but a total mess. I'm looking
for a 4sp or a 5sp kit, used. The cheapest I've found from
'specialty' wreckers is $250 and $500 (Bay Motor Wrecking
in Berkeley). I haven't yet checked w/'you-pull-it' places yet.
Another idea was to find a car that was good for parts,
pull what I need off of it (I could use seats, and tires
and a coupla doodads and thingamabobs - oh, and some f*cking
gravel truck dropped a rock onto my windshield this morning)
and then pass it onto a wrecker. It occured to me that some local
320i owners might need some parts as well, and we might go in
on it together. I don't have the facilities for 'maintaining'
a parts car, and would like to buy, strip, and dump the beast
over a weekend.
If I end up being the sole party in on this, any recommendations
as to what to pull that won't take up too much garage space
(like there's any room in there anyway after 7 years of
sedimentation ;) that (a) will replace something that's bound
to break eventually or (b) has reasonable resale value.
Thanks,
Mark
