Re: Hydrogen Peroxide

Sounds like Grandpa's Secret #9:

or this frugal tip:

http://www.frugalworld.com/tips/5.htm

I searched the Internet and found tips like this, but no scientific discussions about it. As far as these tips go, I want to know how hydrogen peroxide is going to 'burn off' carbon deposits on the intake valves, if it's merely being sprayed onto them. Cleaners like Techron and BG44K work because they contain solvents that dissolve the deposits.

I don't think that carbon intake deposits contain catalase, so there would be no reaction with hydrogen peroxide:

Besides, I also recall hearing a tip about spraying plain water mist into the intake to remove carbon deposits. I didn't believe that one either, and I've never found any proof, or read any studies, that say it works.

Hello Group

an article in my local paper claimed that if you take Hydrogen Peroxide,
and, with your car's engine running, allow it to be sucked into the intake
through a vacuum hose, it will burn off all of the built up carbon in your
intake and combustion areas.

I think the theory is that as H2O2 is an oxidising agent, it will assist the
carbon or whatever is blocking up your system to burn off.

This sounds to me like a cheap and easy way to decarb my engine, but am not
willing to try it without hearing from others that use this system. Anyone
experienced in this?
