RE: 6-series questions/help/advice - 1 more thought

One other thought regarding the plugs.

(Obviously clean out the recess around the plug before pulling them.)
Once you have the plugs out - Check carefully for old washers stuck to the
plug hole. - I recently pulled the plug and performed a compression test on
a neighbours 635csi to hopefully find the cause of an occasional miss we had
been working on - I pulled all 6 plugs just for spite. The first time I
turned the engine over to test #1 - 3 washers shot out of the hole for #6!
I checked all the plugs - and the all had they're 2 washers, so they had to
have been there for a while. I checked the other cylinders and found 4
washers stuck in #4 and a couple in #1.

Compression test proved good (all cylinders within 5 psi). After
re-installing and properly torque the plug - the miss was gone! - hasnt
come back and his mileage has gotten about 15 to 20% better!

Subject: 6-series questions/help/advice

Maybe my first try didn't make it b'cause of the attachment.
So, here I go again:

Recently bought a 1985 635; excellent shape, everything works.
Seems like I've been waiting forever to get one.

3 questions: any comments/replies appreciated.

First: Engine has a bit of valve tappet noise, sounds like one, mabe two.
Is this a fairly easy adjustment? I've done screw and locknut adjustments
on my previous car and my motorcycle.

Second: engine also sounds like it has a misfire, probably old plugs.
Any tips/warnings/advice on pulling the plugs ?

Third: Good sources of repair manual(s)?

Thanks
Emil
